Tree Surgery is defined as the treatment and repair of damaged and diseased trees with the aim to restoring their appearance and arresting further decay

Crown Thinning

If you need to let more light through the canopy of a tree, or just make a general reduction in its size then crown thinning will be required.   We will always ensure that an even density of foliage is kept and branches remain balanced and even.   Where necessary we will also remove weak, defective, hazardous or crossing branches whilst still keeping the balanced look of the tree.

Crown Lifting

Crown lifting usually involves the cutting back of branches to the main stem and is often seen in trees by roadsides to keep the area below the tree clear for vehicles and passers by.   It might be that you have trees that overhang a road or pavement so crown lifting will be the appropriate course of action.  Crown lifting can increase the likelihood of decay in the tree however because of the wounds left in the trunk.  We will discuss the options and suitability of using this process before commencing.

Crown Reduction

If you have a tree that has grown too large for its permitted space then you could consider crown reduction.   It is often necessary (or indeed required) when a tree or part of a tree is touching or very close to a building.    It is an alternative to completely removing the tree and replanting.  We will advise on which would be the more suitable option for you once we have visited the site and assessed the status of the tree and its surroundings. 

Crown reduction should be considered in order to achieve an overall reduction in the volume of a tree but in general a maximum of 20% of the crown can be removed.

Formative pruning

This is where young trees are “trained” to grow in a particular way. Trees can become prone to wind and snow damage and it is often necessary to train a tree to make it more resilient as it matures. Young trees generally require less pruning, however, the training a tree receives while in the early “growth phase” of its life cycle determines its structural integrity for life.

Deadwooding

Deadwooding is the process of removing dead branches which are often overhanging roads or pathways and which pose a high risk to people and property.   We have a 24 hour emergency callout so if you feel there is real danger from a dead/dying branch or debris that could potentially cause damage or injury please contact us as soon as possible.
